Orthopedics and Traumatology

Treating bone injuries, musculoskeletal disorders and bone diseases

Orthopedics and traumatology are medical specialties that focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries and diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

Orthopedics deals primarily with the treatment of chronic conditions such as arthritis, while traumatology focuses on the treatment of acute injuries such as fractures.

How It Works

The process starts with the patient’s medical history review and diagnostic tests, which are conducted to determine the extent of the injury or disorder.

If surgery is necessary, the orthopedic surgeon will use specialized tools and techniques to repair or replace damaged or diseased joints, bones, or other structures. After the surgery the rehabilitation starts, which includes physical therapy or other forms of exercise to help regain strength and mobility.

If surgery is not required, the treatment may include methods such as physical therapy, medication, or bracing.

Side effects

  • Some common side effects of traumatology include pain, swelling, infection, and bleeding.

  • Patients with pre-existing medical conditions, that could hinder their recovery, are typically the most vulnerable group to side effects.

Why undergo it in Israel orthopedic and traumatology?

Israel has become a hub for advanced orthopedic and traumatology treatments. In a recent study conducted in Israel in 2020, the success rates of hip and knee replacement surgeries were evaluated.

The study revealed that 90% of hip replacement surgeries and 82% of knee replacement surgeries were successful. This is largely attributed to the personalized care plans, advanced diagnostic and imaging technologies, and access to cutting-edge clinical trials available in Israel.

Apart from offering successful hip and knee replacement surgeries, Israel is also at the forefront of research on the use of stem cells for treating musculoskeletal conditions. In 2019, a study was published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research, which investigated the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The study found that injection of MSCs into the knee joint resulted in significant pain reduction and improvement in knee function compared to a control group. The findings from this study demonstrate the potential for stem cell therapy to provide an effective and innovative approach to treating osteoarthritis.
